Meet the Supreme Champions 2019

Meet the Supreme Champions 2019

Mum and Dad's Kitchen were crowned this year's Supreme Champions at the Great Hampshire Sausage and Pie Competition. Here are some interesting facts to digest about our county's top pie makers.

It was their Gluten Free Egg. Bacon and Chorizo that won them the title of Supreme Champion.

Before becoming pie makers Jane was a nurse and Dave was a policeman.

They make an average of 1000 pies a week from their purpose-built gluten free kitchen located at home.

The business began as My Mum's Cakes which Jane started after her mother died and she enjoyed the therapy that baking gave her. They donated over two thousand pounds to Breakthrough Breast Cancer from their profits in memory of Jane's mum and continute to donate to charities.

They were challenged by a customer to make a gluten free pie, they accepted the challenge and exceeded expectations!

Their range includes 30 flavours, many are bespoke to particular pie shops. They pride themselves on being able to provide a tailor made pie in accordance with the customer's requirements.

All their pies are gluten free, made using an award-winning recipe which took them over a year to develop and is so sought after that it isn't written down anywhere!

You can buy their pies online and from Piecaramba (Winchester and Southampton), Pie and Vinyl (Southsea), Piebury Corner (London) and the Historic Dockyards, Portsmouth.

All their meat and veg comes from Farmer’s Choice, so it is all sourced from local farms.

Jane and Dave aim to make gluten free pastry that tastes as good, if not better than, standard pastry. It wasn't just the competition judges who were full of compliments about their pastry. Restaurant critic, Jay Raynor, visited Piecaramba in Winchester for The Guardian where he ate a pie made by Mum and Dad's Kitchen and commented: "But, for the record, had I not been told I would not have known the pastry was gluten-free. It crumbled in all the right places."
