Welcome to 30 years of Hampshire Fare
Discover the region’s finest local produce in Hampshire Fare’s essential annual guide covering what and where to buy or try.
This year’s guide is extra special as it is 30 years since a group of local farmers came together to form Hampshire Fare and promote the area’s produce.
To answer a frequently asked question: that’s ‘fare’ as in range of produce, not fair (or fayre) as in market, although Hampshire Fare is involved in such events, too.
Another regular question is who is Hampshire Fare and what does Hampshire Fare do? You’ll find answers on the About Us page of our website, as well as within features on pages 7 and 100 of our new Guide, charting Hampshire Fare’s challenges and triumphs over the years. However, the short answer is that Hampshire Fare comprises a small team making a big difference, working hard behind the scenes to make it easier for people to choose local. Hampshire Fare achieves this by making connections between producers and independent retailers, chefs and hospitality, as well as spreading the word about local.
In this year’s guide (link to view and download below), features invite you to time travel through three decades of changing shopping, eating and buying habits. There has been a quiet revolution over the past 30 years, and Hampshire Fare has been part of that movement, encouraging everyone to buy local for the good of the environment, local economy, our communities and own wellbeing. Modern cuisine is local and seasonal - chefs connect with their local farmers, fishermen and fishmongers, growers and suppliers. Today’s consumer is also more aware; people want to know where their food comes from and the stories behind it. This Guide is intended as a useful resource for both chefs and consumers and includes a useful seasonality table (page 125). The intention is - as it always has been - to make find and buying local even easier.
