The Return of the Great Hampshire Sausage & Pie Competition
Calling all butchers and sausage-producers and pie-makers - put your sausage and pies to the taste test in the Great Hampshire Sausage and Pie Competition 2020. This Competition has become an important fixture in the county’s food calendar. It represents a unique opportunity for local butchers and producers, and helps to highlight the quality produce available at local butchers and farm shops, encouraging people to ‘shop local’.
The Competition is judged by a panel of experts brought in from across the UK who mark entries against strict criteria. Altogether there are 12 categories including: Traditional Pork Sausage, Hampshire Sausage, Young Sausage Maker, Speciality Sausage, Charcuterie, Meatballs & Faggotts, Hot-Eating Pie, Cold-Eating Pie, and Innovative Product. Judging of this popular and prestigious annual contest will take place over two days at Eastleigh College in February 2020, followed by an awards ceremony in Winchester in March 2020.
The winners of the sausage categories are also able to enter the national Champion of Champions Competition, part of The Butcher’s Shop of the Year Awards. This year the title went to Hampshire producer Greenfield Farm Shop, named Best Hampshire Sausage in The Great Hampshire Sausage & Pie Competition 2019. This was a notable accolade for Greenfield Farm Shop and also for Hampshire, illustrating the value of this competition and that our producers are among the best in the country.
Entry forms must be completed by Friday, 31st January, and returned to Hampshire Fare. The products entered will need to be dropped off at Eastleigh College on Tuesday, 18th February for judging. The entry form is available to download from the Hampshire Fare website. Alternatively, call 023 8073 3830 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
