The Competition Hots Up for Sausage & Pie
Forget Valentine's Day - there's a massive love out there for Hampshire sausage and pie! Entries are up by more than 25% on last year for Hampshire Fare's Great Hampshire Sausage & Pie Competition 2020. There's a particularly strong showing for 'Hampshire', 'speciality'and 'traditional' sausages, and 'hot eating pies'. These are just four of the 12 categories that will be judged over two days, mid-February, at Eastleigh College (with students giving up their half-term break to help prepare products for judging). This will be followed by the official awards evening on 5th March at Holiday Inn, Winchester.
This Competition has become an important fixture in the county’s food calendar. It represents a unique opportunity for sausage producers and pie-makers, and helps to highlight the quality produce available at local butchers and farm shops, encouraging people to ‘shop local’.
The Competition is judged by a panel of experts from across the UK who mark entries against strict criteria. Other categories include: Young Sausage Maker, Charcuterie, Meatballs & Faggotts, Cold-Eating Pie, and Innovative Product.
