Sparkling results for Hampshire

Hampshire vineyards are toasting their own success after coming away with sparkling results from the Wessex Vineyards Association annual wine competition held on 8th December at The Guildhall in Winchester.

Hattingley Valley entered the 2013 sparkling Rosé and it not only achieved a gold medal but it was also awarded the top accolade of Wine of the Year. The judges tasting note says: “Elegant, subtle fabulous texture, fresh, perky, strawberry, cream, yeasty, delicate. Good mousse.”

Exton Park Vineyard also received a gold medal for their Pinot Meunier Rosé and Priors Dean Vineyard received a gold for their 2015 Flint Hill Dry still white wine.

Winemakers Jacob Leadley and Will Perkins from Hattingley Valley Wines were there to see the results come in. Jacob says, “It’s an excellent way to end what has been a fantastic year. By the time a wine is released onto the market we have spent many hours in the winery nurturing it. We literally pour our heart, body and souls (particularly when it all starts during harvest!) into making each of our wines, so to receive industry recognition like this for our hard work is truly rewarding. The shiny silverware in the tasting room is a great morale boost for the whole team too.”
