Southampton butcher wraps up in British Sandwich and Food to Go Industry Awards 2019
A local Hampshire butcher has been awarded a national accolade in this year’s final of The Sammies, the renowned competition held by the British Sandwich & Food to Go Association.
Premium butcher Simon Broadribb, of Uptons of Bassett in Southampton, was pitched against his wife Katarina, rival competitor and owner of cookery school Lemon & Soul, in a bid to be crowned the UK”s best sandwich and food to go creator. Marital bliss was no doubt put to the test as both entrants prepared and presented their creations to a panel of expert and celebrity judges from the British Sandwich & Food to Go Association.
Katarina impressed the judges with her Smokey Lentil Pot in the Food to Go category, yet Simon came home as overall winner in the Sam Browne Foods Shredded Duck category, with his Duck Vine Father of all Wraps. Celebrity judge Theo Randall described the entry as ‘the clear winner’.
“We love to introduce new flavour combinations to our popular steak bar and deli menu,” says Simon. “It’s great to highlight different meats, and to have the chance to share our creations with the industry experts, but most of all we look forward to sharing them with our customers.”
We all enjoy a sandwich, whether it’s lunch on the go or the chance of a quick bite to eat with a friend. The Sammies celebrate the sandwich and food to go sector, recognising excellence and innovation from the industry’s finest, held at the prestigious Royal Lancaster London Hotel on Thursday May 9th.
