Eating according to the seasons can save you money and will also help ensure you eat a varied and balanced diet. You will also be enjoying food at its best. As the nights draw in and the temperature begins to drop, September is the perfect time to create warming soups and fruit pies.

Fruit:

September brings damsons, blackberries, pears, plums, elderberries, apples redcurrants, raspberries and quinces.

Vegetables:

Beetroot, artichoke, carrots, cucumber, globe artichoke, cabbage, aubergine, French beans, horseradish, runner beans, tomatoes, onions, marrow, radishes, garlic, sweet corn and courgettes.

Meat and fish:

Mussels, wild duck, pigeon, sea bass, scallops, venison, lamb, oyster, mackerel, grouse, grey mullet, and partridge.
