One month left to enter CPRE Hampshire Countryside Awards

A charity that stands up for the countryside is asking you to get involved and enter an awards scheme to celebrate all that is great about the Hampshire countryside.

Entries are being sought from people in Hampshire involved with an environment-related project of which they feel justly proud. If you would like to share your nature-friendly scheme, whether it is in education, business or the community, you can enter the CPRE Hampshire Countryside Awards up until 19th July 2013.

Entrants and winners will meet the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire, Dame Mary Fagan, DCVO JP, The Queen's representative in our county at a prestigious awards ceremony being organised for September 27th.

A whole range of projects was displayed last year and notes swapped amongst enthusiastic attendees at the event, covered in press reports around the county. An engraved plaque will be presented by the Lord Lieutenant to winners, and a certificate given to others which meet the criteria.

Mike Rushworth, managing director of Steve's Leaves, a brand of Vitacress Salads Ltd, which supports the awards, said: 'We have been very inspired so far by the high standard of entries from a diverse range of projects and there must be many more unsung 'countryside heroes' around the county.'

Steve's Leaves are a group of pioneering farmers who grow tasty, nutritious baby leaves. They do something called nature friendly farming, where 10% of the land is dedicated to nature and the creation of habitats to encourage wildlife.

SmithsGore, one of the UK's leading firms of chartered surveyors and property consultants supports the Rural Enterprise category of the awards, with The Southern Cooperative (TSC) supporting the Community/Voluntary section.

At the charity's AGM on 28th May, Christopher Napier thanked corporate partners of CPRE Hampshire and said: 'As the voice of the countryside, we have a good story to tell and a number of local companies are very supportive of our work.'

Supporters of CPRE Hampshire include NFU Mutual which had a display stand at the AGM. The awards are run with the support of Hampshire Fare and Hampshire Ambassadors.
