Mooka Scoops First Place
The Petersfield-based ice cream and sorbet company, Mooka Gelato, is celebrating after winning first place at the Quality Food Awards 2018.
It was their Chocolate Mousse Gelato which impressed judges and scooped them first place in the Frozen Foods, Ice cream tub category.
Mooka was set up just over six years ago by Yifat Castle. Previously a pastry chef, Yifat spotted a gap in the UK market for quality ice creams and sorbets. Their recent win is a big milestone for the business as Yifat explains: “Winning with our mousse is really amazing! We were up against some big boys so we are really truly happy. It is a really interesting flavour, we used a small measure of brandy not only to effect the flavour but it also keeps the gelato warmer and softer which gives it the mousse texture.”
At Mooka traditional techniques are used and all products are blended by hand for the best flavour. All their gelato is gluten and egg free as well as vegetarian and all their sorbets are dairy, gluten and egg free as well as suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
A selection of their flavours is available to purchase in eight sites of the Southern Co-op. Mooka also supplies gastro-pubs, restaurants and caterers in Hampshire, West Sussex and Surrey with the option to make any flavour the chef orders.
