Hockey's for Top Shop

Hockey's for Top Shop

Congratulations and good luck to Hockey’s Farm Shop, South Gorley, near Fordingbridge – the only Hampshire independent retailer shortlisted in The Guild of Fine Food’s annual Shop of the Year awards for 2018.

Previously forming part of the Great Taste accreditation scheme, Shop of the Year recognises and promotes retail excellence, celebrates the wonderful things small shops and independent retailers are achieving, and gives independent retailers a chance to achieve a nationally recognised stamp of approval.

A robust judging procedure will see Hockey’s Farm Shop undergo two further rounds of judging, including an announced visit from one of the judges and a mystery shopper, in order to be considered as overall winner in the category ‘Best Farm Shop or Garden Centre with Food Hall’.

Laura Burrell, co-owner of Hockey’s Farm and Shop, says: “Being shortlisted for such a prestigious award has really made me smile. It’s so pleasing to know our team have been recognised for their hard work and customer service. Our farm shop has its own special feel through its location, our family involvement and the wonderful selection of local and interesting stock. Being recognised for true independence feels like a great achievement.”

Hockey’s Farm and Shop is a family-owned and run business, only bought five years ago by Laura and Jonny Burrell and Laura’s parents, Anne and Robin Norris. They specialise in selling their own home-reared meat and a selection of locally produced foods and goods as well as running a café and providing opportunities for families to meet farmyard animals.

Tracy Nash, Commercial Manager, Hampshire Fare, comments: “We are delighted and impressed with Hockey’s being shortlisted along with the very best independent retail names in the country and we wish them every success.”
