Hampshire’s Communities Encouraged to ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’ with The Southern Co-operative Stores
Community groups, charities and not for profit groups from across Hampshire are encouraged to get involved with their local neighbourhoods through The Southern Co-operative’s selected food stores and funeral homes with the aim to ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’.
The Southern Co-operative has launched its pilot for an innovative new community programme, ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’. The initiative aims to bring together communities and help make a positive difference to the local area.
Jessica Hughes, Communications and Community Manager for The Southern Co-operative, said: “At The Southern Co-operative, we have been developing an all-encompassing approach to our business’ community activity. As a result, we have listened to our customers, members and colleagues to develop the ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’ programme which will help us to engage with our communities at a much more local level”.
The initiative seeks to address The Southern Co-operative’s four key social themes as identified by a survey of over 4,000 members and colleagues: ‘Greener Neighbourhoods’, ‘Healthier Neighbourhoods’, ‘Safer Neighbourhoods’, and ‘More Inclusive Neighbourhoods’ within the area and welcomes local applications to help achieve this.
The Southern Co-operative will be able to supply goods in kind, local funding, and build local fundraising partnerships for those who successfully apply to the ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’ programme.
Jessica continued: “We are encouraging all community groups, charities, or not-for-profit groups to visit their local participating The Southern Co-operative store or funeral home and find out how our colleagues can help get involved and ‘Love Your Neighbourhood.”
Currently, The Southern Co-operative food stores at Winchester Hill (Romsey), Alresford, Clanfield, The Portsmouth Hard, Tangier Rd (Portsmouth), Hayling Island, and Priddy's Hard (Gosport), and along with funeral homes in Cowplain, Hayling Island, Baffins and Gosport are included in the scheme. All of The Southern Co-operative’s food stores, funeral homes and other businesses will join the programme in spring 2016.
