Hampshire chef wins at Cafe Life Awards

Katarina Broadribb from the Lemon & Soul Cookery School in Southampton is celebrating after impressing judges at the Café Life Awards held as part of the ‘lunch!’ show at ExCel in London.

Categories included the Da Vinci Gourmet Speciality Drinks Challenge, the Florette Food to Go Challenge, the New York Bakery Croll competition and the Norseland Cheese Toasted Sandwich Competition. Entries were judged by a panel including chef and restauranteur Theo Randall.

Two of Katarina’s recipes made it into the finals, with the BLT with a twist being crowned the winner of the New York Bakery Croll category.  The winning creation consisted of a Hampshire collar bacon, smashed avocado mixed with sriracha, smoked sundried tomatoes and parsley.

Katarina commented: “It is a great challenge to think of a new recipe whether it’s a sandwich filling, salad, pasta sauce or drink. To me this also goes hand in hand with a good quality provenance and local produce wherever possible. Hampshire is a wonderful source of high quality ingredients for my cooking and making up new recipes is my passion! I am absolutely delighted that the celebrity chef Theo Randall who was the head judge loved our bacon and two crolls I have created. He said: I blew the judges away and the flavours were spot on.”
