Get a Taste of Hampshire
We're proud to be working with Sparsholt College to bring a new event to this year's Hampshire Food Festival.
On Saturday 13 July a celebration of the region's finest food and drink will see 'Hampshire' as the dish of the day at Sparsholt College's Taste of Hampshire. Food and drink is about tasting, cooking and appreciating and this event will have the very best of the county's produce for visitors to sample and experience. Demonstrations from a number of leading chefs will also inspire visitors and the final of Fuller's '2013 Hampshire Dish of the Year' will take place at the event.
Organiser Philip Holroyd-Smith from Sparsholt College said: 'We have recently formed a partnership with Hampshire Fare and this is the first of many collaborative events. With the Taste of Hampshire we want to encourage people to truly experience locally produced food, to understand its provenance and to be inspired to support this county's producers. Three of Hampshire's leading chefs will be demonstrating how to create dishes from locally produced food which we hope will be replicated in homes across the county.'
Set in the College's Library Gardens, doors will be open from 10.30am, with Lainston House Hotel's Executive Chef Andy MacKenzie donning his apron for the first demonstration in the professional kitchen at 11.00am. Andy will be making a dish using seasonal produce from the hotel's garden. Executive Chef, Luke Matthews from Chewton Glen and Executive Chef, Jim Hayward from Ideal Collection will also take to the kitchen stage and cook up some local delights.
There will be many an opportunity for visitors to sample and buy local food, wine and ale. Producers attending on the day will showcase the best of local cheeses and meats, preserves and chutneys and cordials and fruit juices. A number of workshops will pass on valuable 'how-to' skills including a fish filleting session run by Sparsholt chef Daniel Busher.
Foodies with children will enjoy Taste of Hampshire a dedicated children's area with tasting, making and cake decorating!
How better to conclude a day which celebrates the very best food and drink the county has to offer then to watch the finals of Fuller's 2013 Hampshire Dish of the Year cook off. Six chefs from the company's 360 pubs, bars and hotels have reached the final stages of the competition which requires them to produce a creative dish for two covers, to be served in their pub.
Advanced booking is highly recommended, call 01962 797292. Tickets cost £8 per adult, £5 per child and £24 for a family. Find out more about the event on the college website (link below).
