As the festive season approaches many people are preparing to host Christmas gatherings and feed large numbers. It is a time of year when certain traditions lead to more people adopting a seasonal approach to eating. Whilst British fruit is limited in the winter months delicious meat and vegetables are in season.
Fruit and nuts: apples, pears, quince and chestnuts.
Vegetables and herbs: beetroot, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, celeriac, chicory, fennel, Jerusalem artichoke, kale, leeks, parsnips, potatoes, red cabbage, swede, turnips and wild mushrooms.
Meat and fish: chicken, duck, goose, grouse, hare, lamb, partridge, pheasant, rabbit, turkey, venison, brill, bream gilt, clams, hake, monkfish, mussells, sardine, scallops, skate and wild bass.
