Chris Packham invites you to a Vulture Culture Dinner Party and says “cough up” to help endangered birds

TV presenter and naturalist Chris Packham has made a film to support the Hawk Conservancy Trust’s latest fundraising initiative to help the most threatened members of the bird world, by hosting a dinner party with a difference. The ‘Vulture Culture’ Dinner Party set contains menu ideas, invitations, fact sheets and a DVD to get an evening up and flying and raise money for Vulture conservation.

In the film, Chris Packham, who is President of the award-winning Hawk Conservancy Trust, is joined by a group (or ‘venue’) of inquisitive Hooded Vultures. He says: “They’re perfect dinner guests as you can see. But they’re also in real trouble too. Among all of the groups of birds on Earth they are the most threatened with extinction. They need our help.”

With their bare heads and hunched shoulders they may not be everyone’s choice of dinner date, but vultures play a vital role as the ‘carcass clean-up crew’ of the ecosystem, scavenging on dead animals and helping to prevent the spread of disease from rotting carcasses.

All funds raised by Vulture Culture dinner parties will go directly towards the Trust’s conservation and research projects with the African White-backed Vulture, Hooded Vulture, Lappet-faced Vulture, and White-headed Vulture in South Africa and the critically endangered Oriental White-backed Vulture in Pakistan.
