A knightly gin for Winchester
Master Distiller Paul Bowler from Winchester Distillery has been busy concocting a new product ‘ Winchester Gin’ which was launched at the recent Ginchester Fete at the Great Hall Winchester.
Synonymous with the legendary Round Table of Winchester, this unique gin features 25 botanicals in its distillation process - one for each of the 24 knights depicted on the table plus juniper for King Arthur himself.
Commenting on this product, Paul Bowler said “I looked specifically at the type of herbs and spices that were commonly used in foods and medicines in medieval times for this blend which has been our most exciting and creative blend to date!”
Winchester Gin is bottled at a strong 44% ABV allowing for a flavour-packed characterful gin. “Working with this level of proof gives me the opportunity to experiment with a variety of ingredients that make our gins a distinctive and memorable experience”, Paul comments. “It has been such a great occasion to unveil our Winchester Gin in the Great Hall literally underneath the 12th century Round Table!”
This is the latest product on offer from the busy spirits business in Alresford near WInchester, who also produce Twisted Nose Spirits using locally grown watercress as well as a sought after range of seasonal Hampshire gins. All products are available locally in Hampshire and at select retailers throughout the UK.
