The Spirit of Reinvention
Mark Williams is getting down to business producing a new hand sanitiser. Mark, who co-founded New Forest Spirits with his wife Kay just two years ago, creating handcrafted award-winning small batch Wyrd Dry Gin, has repurposed production to make hand sanitiser following the outbreak of Covid-19.
He explains: “Our aim is to do two things: to help where we can - and we have recently given away some of our Wyrd Liquid Hand Rub sanitiser to local care homes – and to supply the local business environment and fill a gap in our own business.”
Mark is someone who doesn’t do things by halves. This is not just any hand sanitiser. Wyrd Liquid Hand Rub contains 70% alcohol by volume (well within the World Health Organisation’s recommended range) with essential oils of eucalyptus, English lavender and aloe vera to condition and protect skin. The sanitiser comes in a range of sizes - 100ml, 250ml and 1 litre containers - available by the bottle (subject to an agreed minimum quantity) or in hundreds of litre quantities for high volume end-users. “Our Wyrd Liquid Hand Rub has gone through an independent product safety assessment and it’s notified in accordance with EU regulations”.
Mark continues: “We are looking to supply organisations returning to work who want to provide a safe working environment for their employees - perhaps by providing individual bottles for those who are moving around; something a little larger to sit on desks or in an office area, and suitable containers for communal areas like reception areas, rest rooms and break out rooms.”
Mark is interested in hearing from appropriate businesses already opening up post-lockdown, as well as cafes, canteens, pubs, restaurants, hotels and others in the hospitality industry, such as self-catering properties, who are starting to think about preparing their environment for visitors, although it seems unlikely they will reopen before September.
Mark adds: “Customisation opportunities are available. For example, if a client wants a fragrance that is more suitable for a restaurant, rather than lavender which may be a little too perfumed, we can modify the product to suit a client’s need”.
All they need to do now is deliver the orders: “We are prepared, and I’m happy to deliver sizeable volumes to businesses across Hampshire and Dorset.”
