Across Hampshire there is a growing hunger for artisan bread as people seek out additive-free baking using natural ingredients. Real bread offers flavour and freshness which just can’t be replicated in a processed loaf.

We are lucky to have lots of bakeries to choose from in Hampshire. To mark Real Bread Week, here’s our guide to local bakeries:

Bakehouse24, Ringwood
Head baker, Pete, learnt his skills in east London before returning to his hometown to set up Bakehouse24 with his partner Jo. Now well-established and extremely popular with locals this trendy bakery has a tempting range. Weekend sourdough baking classes.

Honesty, Houghton and Kingsclere
Baking breads and pastries seven days a week using local organic stoneground flour. Speciality breads include sourdough, Italian rosemary and sea salt and black olive bread. Traditional English loaves such as bloomers and sandwich tin, white and wholemeal. Weekday baking classes.

Skilled craft bakers have been proudly creating delicious breads and cakes since 1973 at The Oven Door Bakery.

The Baker Boys, Hook
A small organic bakery producing a large range of hand-made baked goods. Specialises in naturally leavened doughs and all their breads are made utilising long fermentation methods to enhance flavour and naturally lower gluten levels. Find them at Hampshire Farmers’ Markets.

Bread Addiction, Southsea
Strong believers in the traditional way of making bread using only organic flour, pure water, sea salt, natural levain and a pair of hands. This bakery likes to keep things simple and let the flavours speak for themselves. Sunday baking classes.
