October: What's in season?

October brings cosy casseroles made with fresh winter vegetables and seasonal game and delicious fruit cakes and crumbles. Eating according to the seasons encourages a varied and balanced diet and ensures you are eating food at its best.

Fruit:

Apples, pears, blackberries, elderberries, plums, damsons and quince.

Vegetables and herbs:

Beetroot, artichoke, broccoli, squash, celeriac, celery, fennel, horseradish, kale, leeks, marrow, parsnips, potatoes, pumpkin, swede, sweetcorn, tomatoes, turnips, watercress, wild mushrooms, chard, cabbage, cobnuts, rosemary, sage and thyme.
