MasterChef champion shows support for local charity

Last week, MasterChef winner and Hampshire resident, Jane Devonshire, donated her time and talents to raise much needed funds for Ark Cancer Charity.

The fine dining experience was held as part of the Hampshire Food Festival organised by Hampshire Fare which involves a packed and tasty programme of over 60 food and farming events held across the county throughout July.

On Thursday 6th July, ten food lovers gathered at The Myers Touch in Kings Worthy near Winchester where they sipped Hampshire Chalkdown Sparkling Cider on arrival before savouring a six course meal to remember. Showcasing Hampshire’s finest, ingredients included Broughton Buffalo, watercress, wasabi, strawberries and black garlic.

Each course was paired with a carefully selected wine chosen by the team at Berry Bros & Rudd in Basingstoke. Guests ended the meal with a Hampshire cheese board featuring Old Winchester, Stoney Cross, Tunworth, Winslade, Two Hoots and Isle of Wight blue. Chocolates by Miss Witt were given to each guest with their coffee.

Ark Cancer Centre Charity trustee Merv Rees commented on the evening: “The charity is so grateful to the wonderful Jane Devonshire, Hampshire Fare, The Myers Touch team, Paul and all at Berry Bros & Rudd, and all the fabulous Hampshire food producers who supported this very special fine dining evening.

“The kind and generous support of all the diners who attended is very much appreciated, and I am delighted that they enjoyed such a marvellous and memorable evening. Their support for the charity is much appreciated, and their donations are another welcome step towards Ark’s £5million fundraising target in support of the much-needed cancer treatment centre.”

The success of Ark Cancer Centre Charity’s £5m appeal will ensure a range of support services and complementary therapies are available alongside chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments in a calm and uplifting environment.

Eager to do more, Jane Devonshire is teaming up with fellow MasterChef finalist, Juanita Hennessey this Thursday 13th July to host a cocktail and canapé evening at The Myers Touch in Kings Worthy near Winchester. Tickets for the event being held at 7pm-9pm can be purchased on The Myers Touch website.

There are plenty of events yet to take place during the month-long Hampshire Food Festival, including brewery tours, a wine festival, gin tours and much more. For a full list of Hampshire Food Festival events visit www.hampshirefare.co.uk.
