Local coffee roasters open new premises

Winchester Coffee Roasters has built up quite a following over the past year and a half after tempting market goers with the aroma of fresh coffee at Winchester Market. The support of their loyal wholesale and retail customers has meant that they have been able to move to their first commercial premises in Kings Worthy.

The business was founded by Mark Goulding in 2012 who was inspired by the high quality of the coffee he experienced when living in Australia. Determined to bring a better standard of coffee to the UK he undertook training from one of the top roasters in Australia before bringing his own roasts to Winchester.

As well as selling their popular coffee roasts to local retailers and cafés such as Watkins and Faux and Leckford Farm Shop, Winchester Coffee Roasters open their doors to the public every Saturday. From 8.30am-12.30pm members of the public are welcome to drop in and buy freshly roasted beans and try different coffees from around the world.

For customers eager to have a go at producing excellent coffee themselves there is a home barista course run from the barista training centre on the new premises. Participants have the opportunity to bring their own machine or use the machines on site to practice their skills during the two hour Saturday afternoon course.

Owner Mark Goulding explains his motivation for educating in the art of espresso making: “There is nothing quite like the aroma and flavour of a well-roasted coffee. I am passionate about improving the standard of the coffee served in this country and for this to happen baristas need to be trained. As well as guiding home baristas in the art of coffee making we also travel to hotels and cafes to educate baristas.”
