Hampshire in Westminster
Hampshire food and drink producers are being given the opportunity to showcase their products, from smoked trout to sparkling wine, at a ‘Hampshire in Westminster’ event to be held at the House of Commons on 10 June.
This event was instigated by Caroline Nokes, MP for Romsey and Southampton North, with support from Damian Hinds, MP for East Hampshire, and George Hollingbery, MP for Meon Valley.
Caroline Nokes has been working with the county’s food group, Hampshire Fare, who are organising the event. This celebration of the county’s produce will involve a selection of producers representing the breadth of Hampshire from Basingstoke to Southampton and Petersfield to the New Forest.
Caroline Nokes commented: “This will be a brilliant opportunity to showcase Hampshire. Across the county there are great examples of bakers, cheese-makers, ice-cream makers, even natural beauty products. The list is almost endless.
“It is great to have some of these items available for tasting and sampling, with the local producers on hand to best explain to decision-makers and opinion-formers just why Hampshire is so great.”
Michael Wright, Chairman of Hampshire, added: “What a fantastic opportunity to lift the profile of Hampshire’s wonderful selection of food and drink! Hampshire producers could have filled Westminster Hall, but unfortunately we had to restrict numbers. However it’s another opportunity to spread the word about the wonderful products around Hampshire.”
