The Gamekeepers

Run by Sandra and Philip Costello, The Gamekeepers is a charming country inn nestling in the lovely thatched village of Mapledurwell. Featuring exposed beams, a fabulous flagstone floor and large garden it boasts views over the surrounding fields and countryside. 

The building dates back as far as 1841 and if you look carefully in the dining room, you’ll see two bricks on either side of the fireplace; one carved “JP 1854” and the other “EP 1854” referring to Joseph Phillips, the shoemaker and then inn-keeper and his wife Elizabeth.

Good upmarket food is offered from a regularly changing blackboard menu and incorporates ingredients from the owners’ favourite local producers.
