Hampshire Food Festival in Awards Finals
21 November 2011

The Festival, which is organised by Hampshire Fare and backed by Hampshire County Council, showcases local food and farming throughout July each year.
This year, over 90 different Festival events were hosted by 80 businesses and organisations across the county, including farms, producer outlets, vineyards, breweries, restaurants, pubs, hotels, libraries, town centres, farm shops and independent stores.
Over 221,000 people visited Hampshire Food Festival events in 2011, and research indicates that this generated an estimated £3.82 million of visitor spending.
Hampshire Food Festival events this year included farm open days and walks; brewery, vineyard, orchard and lavender tours; celebratory lunches and dinners; butchery and fish filleting demos, cookery classes; jam, chocolate and cheese-making; milling and baking; cider pressing; trout and venison farming; foraging; beekeeping; cookery competitions; tastings and much more.
James Martin, Atul Kochhar and Antony Worrall Thompson all took part, as well as TV wine expert Olly Smith and vegetarian food writer Rose Elliot. The star of the show throughout was local food and drink!
In 2010, The Hampshire Food Festival won Gold at the Beautiful South Awards for Excellence in the ‘Flavours of the South East ‘ category. This year it faces some stiff competition to win ‘Event of the Year’, including The New Forest & Hampshire County Show, a Corporate Friend of Hampshire Fare.
Winners will be announced on 1 December at the awards ceremony being held at Denbies Vineyard in Surrey.
Plans are already underway for the 2012 Hampshire Food Festival.
